Mindy Young, Owner

Mindy Young recently concluded her professional career as a Radio City Rockette and has been a sought after professional dancer for many years. She received her education in the Bachelors Program at Oklahoma City University, one of the finest and most respected dance performance schools in the country. Mindy possesses a high level of dance technique and a broad range of professional performance experience. She brings to The Pointe, the passion and expertise to inspire children to dance, as well as prepare those aspiring to a career in the industry. Mindy’s experience extends into many aspects of the performing arts world. She has performed in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and was selected for the international opening for the Rockettes in Mexico. She also appeared on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines flagships, as well as many years in the theater, appearing in musicals such as Peter Pan, South Pacific, The Goodbye Girl and Oklahoma. She has performed in dance instructional videos as well as choreographed for many dance teams and theater groups around the country. Mindy has been teaching dance for 20 years and judges for a national dance competitions.

Elizabeth Macy- Contemporary & Jazz Instructor

Elizabeth Macy grew up in a diverse musical and creative home that naturally led to a dance career. She has been dancing and training since she was 4 years old, here in Colorado, as well as intensive workshops and private instruction in New York and Los Angeles.  Elizabeth has a broad and extensive knowledge of different dance styles, advanced technique, and performance experience, including television and music videos. At a very young age, Elizabeth was sought out and asked to assist many well known choreographers in the business including Brian Friedman, Travis Wall, Dee Caspary, Kim Mcswain, Laurie Kanyok, Nick Lazerinni, and many others. At age 17, Elizabeth was picked by Gil Stroming, owner and creator of JUMP and many other dance conventions, to tour and assist the choreographers across the U.S. Elizabeth later won JUMP’s National Senior Outstanding Dancer, and continued touring with them. Elizabeth soon started teaching young dancers at The Pointe Dance Academy before moving to Los Angeles where she signed with The Bloc Agency, dancing with hot new up and coming choreographers. Little did she know that teaching and choreographing was a passion that would become her life’s calling. With a unique vision for choreography, and a deep love for dance, she enjoys sharing and teaching young dancers who like herself, just want to dance.

Hannah Clarke- Contemporary & Jazz Instructor

Hannah_Clarke_bwHannah Clarke has been training and dancing for the majority of her life. She is a graduate of The Pointe Dance Academy and is thrilled to be teaching at the place she calls home. Hannah has studied with many choreographers such as Jaimie Goodwin, Kaitlyn Conley, Alexa Anderson, Bobby Newberry, Jaci Royal, Ivan Koumaev, Talia Favia, and many others. Not only has she won scholarships at dance competitions and conventions she also had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Celebrity Crew at their National Competition and the Celebrity Create Show. Hannah has been an assistant for Talia Favia at many dance studios as well as at the In10sive Dance Convention and the Mather Summer Intensive. She also was in Talia Favia’s show, “The Difference Between Sinking and Drowning,” in Phoenix, Arizona. Hannah is currently a member of Mpact Dance Company,  here in Colorado. As well as her love for performing, she has found her greatest passion to be teaching kids and watching them grow, just like she did at The Pointe.

Kayla Wheeler- Contemporary & Jazz Instructor

Kayla_Wheeler_bwKayla Wheeler has been dancing since the age of 3 and trained here in Colorado. She is a graduate of the Pointe Dance academy and is so happy to be back teaching at the place where she fell in love with dance. In high school she was also a part of the Cherokee Trail varsity Pom team. She received her degree in psychology and political science from he University of Colorado - Boulder and spent 4 years on their dance team. Her junior and senior year of college she was elected student coach and lead the team to nationals every year placing 6th in the nation her senior year. After college Kayla began traveling to choreograph and teach at different high schools   and studios in the region. She is beyond excited to be back  with her Pointe family this year.

Emily Speed- Ballet & Pointe Instructor

Emily-Speed_BW Emily Speed is originally from Argyle, TX and began her professional training under Marina Almayeva. In 2006, she was a Finalist at World Ballet Competition, in Orlando, Florida.  Ms. Speed won first place in the classical division at the 2007 Youth American Grand Prix Regionals.  Emily was one out of a hundred participants worldwide who qualified and competed in the 2010 Varna International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria and this past summer went to the USA IBC in Jackson, MS.  During her career, she has danced professionally with Alabama Ballet, Ballet Tucson and Boulder Ballet.  Ms. Speed has performed multiple principle and soloist roles including, Flower Girl and Mercedes in Don Quixote, roles in George Balanchine's Serenade and The Nutcracker, Anthony Tudor's Lilac Garden and Continuo, Daniel Precup'sBolero, Third Act Raymonda, The Wedding Pas de Duex from Don QuixoteThe Fairy Doll Pas de Trios staged by Amanda McKerrow and John Gardner and most recently Clara in The Nutcracker.  She has been invited to guest with various schools and companies around the U.S. as well as international festivals and gala performances.  Emily is very excited about joining Colorado Ballet for the 2014-2015 season.

 Lillian Brace- Ballet Instructor

Lillian-Brace_bwLillian Brace, originally from Mexico, MO, began her classical ballet training at the age of four from the Audrain Ballet Academy under Maria Parrot. Lillian has studied predominantly in classical ballet, contemporary ballet and modern dance. In high school, she was a ballet instructor for Presser Performing Arts Center and Missouri Contemporary Ballet School. In 2009, she accepted a trainee position with The Missouri Contemporary Ballet Company. Her rolls over the years have included Snow Queen and Dans des Mirlitons in The Nutcracker, Sylph in Les Sylphides, and Cat in Peter and the Wolf. Over the years she has continued to teach contemporary ballet, jazz, modern dance and dancers specific strengthening classes to a variety of levels. Lillian has attended various dance programs including Ballet Magnificat, The Joffrey Ballet School NYC, Ad Deum Dance Company, and The San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She has also had the privilege performing works by choreographers such as Randall Flinn, Christian Burns, Isadora Duncan, Robert Moses, and Ohad Naharin. Lillian has had the pleasure of working closely with numerous teachers and choreographers such as Summer Lee Rhatigan, Alex Ketley, Chiaru Shibata, Ryan Corriston, and Karen Castleman. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from Belhaven University in 2013 and by 2014 she accepted a scholarship position at Visceral Dance Center in Chicago, IL under the direction of Nick Pupillo. In addition to teaching throughout North Central Colorado, Lillian also dances with BRIAH Danse’ a contemporary ballet company based in Boulder, Colorado. Lillian is extremely excited to pursue her passion for dance in Colorado as well as being apart of The Pointe Dance Academy.

Donovan Helma- Tap Instructor

donovan_bwSince the age of three, Donovan Helma has been dancing under the direction of his mother’s dance studio in Denver, CO. He currently continues his education in New York City. When he is not taking class or performing, Donovan teaches for numerous studios and national conventions across the United States. Some recent performances include General Motors, Charles Schwab, Holland’s International Shipping Yard grand opening and a performance on a Monday Night Football halftime show with the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. He has recently performed for Montreal’s Danse Encore International Festival in a production by Tap’d Out. In 2004, 2006, and 2009 Donovan toured the United States, Europe and South Africa as a lead tap dancer in Tap Dogs. Currently, Donovan is touring with the new Greorgy Hines tribute show, Thank You Gregory. Donovan looks forward to continuing his dancing career and inspiring audiences and students nationwide.
